Riding your bike as fast as you can downhill!
What is it all about?

Racers ride against the clock at intervals, the winner being whoever reaches the finish line in the shortest time. Riders are set off at intervals as the terrain is mostly steep and high speed.

Downhill mountain bikes usually always feature full suspension to help rider reach maximum speeds over very difficult terrain. Bikes use hydraulic disc brakes, the same technology as used in cars and motorbikes to stop quickly.

Bike technology is becoming more and more important as the stakes at the top of the world championships become higher. Often the materials and technology used are up there with formula one such as carbon fibre.

Downhiller’s wear body armour and full face helmets.
